Daniil Medvedev, a former US Open winner, easily defeated Hungarian Attila Balazs on Tuesday to go to the second round of the US Open. The score was 6-1, 6-1, 6-0.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-153225″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-top-players-medvedev-zverev-and-berrettini-progress-to-the-second-round-of-the-us-open-download-55-11zon-1.jpg” alt=”theindiaprint.com top players medvedev zverev and berrettini progress to the second round of the us open download 55 11zon 1″ width=”958″ height=”684″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-top-players-medvedev-zverev-and-berrettini-progress-to-the-second-round-of-the-us-open-download-55-11zon-1.jpg 266w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-top-players-medvedev-zverev-and-berrettini-progress-to-the-second-round-of-the-us-open-download-55-11zon-1-150×107.jpg 150w” sizes=”(max-width: 958px) 100vw, 958px” title=”Top players Medvedev, Zverev, and Berrettini progress to the second round of the US Open 3″>

The Russian golfer who was seeded third achieved his 50th victory on a tour this year. With a current US Open record of 24-5, he has more victories there than at the other three majors combined (Australian Open 21, Wimbledon 13, Roland Garros 7).

The winner of Max Purcell and Christopher O’Connell’s Australian bout will go up against him next.

Medvedev has won four tour-level championships on hard courts this year as he pursues his second Slam title.

Alexander Zverev of Germany advanced to the second round after easily defeating Aleksandar Vukic with scores of 6-4, 6-4, 6-4. Daniel Altmaier or Constant Lestienne will be his next encounter.

After two hours and eleven minutes, the 26-year-old, who made it to the New York final in 2020, earned 86 percent (50/58) of his first-serve points to progress.

Matteo Berrettini, a semifinalist at the 2019 US Open, defeated No. 29 seed Ugo Humbert in straight sets in Round 1 after showing spurts of brilliance and serving 11 aces. In the 2023 edition, Berrettini prevailed in the rematch of the 2019 match, winning 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.

The former world No. 6 entered this competition ranked lower than his French opponent (No. 36 to No. 33), who recently defeated world No. 13 Alex de Minaur to advance to the semifinals of an ATP tournament in Atlanta due to injuries that have plagued Berrettini’s season.

However, Berrettini seemed to be rediscovering his form—and his forehand—in the early exchanges.
