Matthew Mott, the England coach, blasts claims of dressing room unrest while dismissing Eoin Morgan’s remarks

The England squad is still a “very close-knit unit,” according to head coach Matthew Mott, even after India crushed the reigning champions by 100 runs on Sunday, sending them to their sixth World Cup loss.

Following former England captain Eoin Morgan’s insistence that divisions within the team were the reason for the champions’ poor performance, Mott made his accusations.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-258271″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-registration-for-hp-tet-november-2023-closes-today-at-hpbose-org-steps-to-apply-96-750×499.png” alt=”theindiaprint.com registration for hp tet november 2023 closes today at hpbose org steps to apply 96″ width=”1560″ height=”1038″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-registration-for-hp-tet-november-2023-closes-today-at-hpbose-org-steps-to-apply-96-750×499.png 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-registration-for-hp-tet-november-2023-closes-today-at-hpbose-org-steps-to-apply-96-768×511.png 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-registration-for-hp-tet-november-2023-closes-today-at-hpbose-org-steps-to-apply-96-150×100.png 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/theindiaprint.com-registration-for-hp-tet-november-2023-closes-today-at-hpbose-org-steps-to-apply-96.png 958w” sizes=”(max-width: 1560px) 100vw, 1560px” title=”Matthew Mott, the England coach, blasts claims of dressing room unrest while dismissing Eoin Morgan's remarks 3″>

The captain of the 2019 World Cup-winning squad, Morgan, said Sky Sports, “I’ve never come across a sports team that has underperformed like this, given the level of expectation.”

“There is undoubtedly unease among the squad members. I believe that something else is occurring—it has to.”

Mott quickly denied the allegations.

“I really don’t think that. Despite our performance, I believe that anybody inside our tent right now would attest to the fact that we’re a really close-knit team,” he said.

“In my perspective, the group has been very strong in that particular area. Our training sessions are very enjoyable, as you can see. In an attempt to assist one another, people are placing their arms around one another.

When pressed on the subject, Mott said, “Eoin has the right to his opinion.” It is evident that he has been absent for a few weeks due to the birth of his kid.

“He hasn’t been in and around the rooms, but I will definitely talk to him about it and bring it up.”

Absence of runs

England, led by Jos Buttler, almost crashed out of the competition after suffering their fifth defeat in six games.

Their spinners held India to 229-9, but the Indian attack spearheaded by Mohammed Shami and Jasprit Bumrah caused the batting to collapse once again, this time to 129 all out.

In their most recent defeat to Sri Lanka, England’s batting collapsed for 156 runs, but Mott insisted that the group will not give up in the next three games.

It seems hard to me. That’s what professional athletics is about, but I’m tired of going here and talking to you people about the same stuff,” he said.

And this is where we need to keep working hard. We still have a good amount of the competition left to play.

“In the first half, we performed our duties; in the second, one would want to forget, so we need to figure something out. Some elite players are there, but sadly they aren’t scoring the runs they are used to.

The top seven countries from this World Cup plus the hosts Pakistan are anticipated to fight for the 2025 Champions Trophy, which England is now unable to win as they sit at the bottom of the 10-team table.

But according to Mott, they were just made aware of the qualifying situation “about an hour and a half ago.”

It’s not a huge concern, according to Mott, since the ICC (International Cricket Council) modifies the criteria for qualifying often. Besides, I don’t believe it would have any impact on how we’ve played in this competition.
